You are cordially invited to a thoroughly City of London event, Treasures of the Thames, on Tuesday 28th January at 6pm at Cutlers’ Hall.
Mudlarks are committed treasure-hunters who scour the foreshore in search of the hidden riches of the river which their eagle eyes spot at low tide. Society of Thames Mudlark members and Trustees of the Thames Museum, Jason Sandy and Nick Stevens, along with Monika Buttling-Smith will present an amazing collection of knives, daggers, blades, scabbard chapes, sword belt hangers, and all manner of other artefacts they have rescued from obscurity in the depths of the Thames. They will give an illuminating lecture about how they find what they find and its historical context. They will also bring along an extensive display (largely from the collection of veteran mudlark Graham DuHeaume)
The talk will be followed by a glass of wine and a chance to handle and view the collection at close quarters.
Whether you want to be able to tell your chapes from your pommels, or simply want a special insight into our great city, please confirm your place for what will be a unique, fascinating evening by applying for your space online. You are very welcome to bring a guest(s).
The evening is expected to conclude around 8pm.
